THE EVOLUTION OF ARTIFICIAL LIGHT |
After
the discovery of fire Man was trying to get any more reliable source of light
that can be more workable in his range and can work for longer period of not
much affected by the environmental conditions. Artificial light is that source
of light other than the Natural resources produced by the Almighty Allah. Now a
day’s artificial light is the companion of every individual living in the
universe.
Fire
Man
discovered fire about 400,000 years ago. The primitive man used fire for light,
heat and for protection from wild animals. Man used fire to clear the forests
as well as to cook food. After that, he learned to make different instruments
by melting various metals.
Candle
Candle
was invented in 3000 B.C. It is usually a round stick of wax with a piece of
String which is called a wick through the middle which is lit to give light as it burns.
OIL Lamp
In
4500 B.C. oil lamp was invented that burned oil for light. This lamp gave light
for a certain period of time using an oil-based fuel source.
LANTERN
Muslim
Scientist, Muhammad Bin Zakaria Al-Razi, invented kerosene oil lamp (lantern)
in 900 A.D. It has, usually, three parts. The lower part contains kerosene oil which
is used as fuel and on the upper of this part, a wick is fixed in a metal
container, which burns and gives light. The second part contains glass chimney
and the third part contains a metal frame.
